Francesco Parona and Parona’s Space: A historical, anatomical and clinical review
Dhaval M. Patel, MD. University of Illinois at Chicago, chicago, IL, USA.
PURPOSE: This paper will address a historical review of Francesco Parona, the anatomist and surgeon, anatomical review of Parona’s space, and two clinical cases of Parona’s space infection. METHODS: This paper is a historical, anatomical and clinlical review of Dr. F. Parona, space of Parona, and infections thereof. RESULTS: We present two clinical cases of Parona’s space infection. The first case in a 54 y/o male was due to direct puncture wound in the distal wrist. This was treated with volar incision. The patient had an excellent outcome. The second case in a 48 y/o female was due to the spread of infection from a neglected radial bursa infection. CONCLUSION: We feel that with good anatomical knowledge of Parona’s space and prompt surgical intervention, a patient with Parona’s space infection can have a very good outcome.
