Instructions for AAPS Membership Application

The 2012 Membership Application will be available soon.

Each candidate must be sponsored by two Fellows of the Association. One of the sponsors should be from the candidate's community or, if this is not feasible, from the candidate's region.

The membership process must be initiated by an AAPS member. Your responsibility as the requesting sponsor is to:

  1. Login to the Members Only area and fill out the "Sponsor a New Member" section, this will notify the candidate to fill out the application,
  2. After your candidate has filled out the application, you will receive an email notification to review the completed application, and
  3. Complete the sponsor recommendation form
A Fellow of the Association may sponsor three new candidates in a given calendar year. Since candidates not accepted when first proposed will be considered for an additional two consecutive years, a Fellow of the Association might appear to be the sponsor of as many as nine candidates at a given Annual Meeting, provided each of the candidates was proposed in a different year.

Application for membership may be submitted no earlier than five years following certification by either The American Board of Plastic Surgery or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (in plastic surgery). Those board certified in November 2006 or before are eligible for the 2012 class. An exception to those who lack certification may be granted to outstanding plastic surgeons, foreign or domestic.

The "Proposal for Membership" is to be electronically completed by the candidate. When submitted, the sponsors will be notified to complete the sponsor recommendation form. The "Proposal" must be received no later than September 1, 2011, in order to be considered for 2012.

Membership in the Association is by invitation only. Please contact Natalie Tirado in the AAPS Administrative office (978-927-8330) or Dr. Robert J. Havlik, AAPS Membership Chair, (317-274-2430) if you have any questions concerning the process.

Remember, as the requesting sponsor, you are ultimately responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the accompanying application. Be sure to double-check your candidate's bibliography and date of board certification.

Only online applications will be accepted
